This chapter introduces candidates to accounting concepts to enable the use of these concepts in keeping full and proper accounting record of a Legal Practitioners' trust and business accounts.

At the end of these sessions, you should be able to understand and interpret the concepts of accounting and be able to apply these concepts logically and systematically. Simply learning these concepts without understanding the underlying principles will not suffice. If an accounting problem presents itself, it is imperative to understand the problem and through analysis and reasoning, resolve it.

Bookkeeping is the fundamental process of recording and tracking a business's financial transactions. It's a daily activity that helps businesses understand their financial position and performance. Essentially, bookkeeping is about keeping accurate records of money coming in and out, which forms the foundation for financial analysis and decision-making.
